The Importance of Wavelengths
810nm INFRARED WAVELENGTH
The conversion of ATP through molecular oxygen has the highest saturation using the 810 wavelength. 810nm has also been called the “therapeutic wavelength” as it penetrates deeper and affects more cellular activity. By using 8w of power, you can be assured that maximum saturation of energy will be delivered.
980nm INFRARED WAVELENGTH
Oxygen that is released by way of the 915 wavelength needs a transport system, and that system is H20. Along with oxygen transport, water helps in the elimination of waste, thus being a two mode carrier. Photon absorption is converted to heat. This heat creates a controlled thermal environment at the cellular level. All of this activity triggers such responses as microcirculation and the transport of O2 to the cells in need.

Biological Effects
Anti-Inflamation
Laser therapy has an anti-edemic effect as it causes vasodilation, but also because it activates the lymphatic drainage system. As a result, there is a reduction in swelling caused by bruising or inflamation.
Anti-Pain (Analgesic)
Laser therapy has a high beneficial effect on nerve cells which block pain transmitted by these cells to the brain and which decreases nerve sensitivity. Also, due to less inflamation, there is less edema and less pain.
Accelerated Tissue Repair and Cell Growth
Photons of light from lasers penerate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. The laser light increases the energy available to the cell so that the cell can take on nutrients faster and get rid of waste products.

Why is Power so Important?
If wavelenght determines a laser energy's depth of penetration then power determines its saturation at the targeted depth. It would be a mistake to consider one without the other.
Power(Watts) is the number of photons of radiation you can deliver per unit time. The energy deposited (Joules) is the accumulation of these photons over time (1 Watt=1 Joule per 1 second). By starting out with more Watts at the surface, more will penetrate to the desired depth.
For and illustration, consider the following
- 1 Watt Laser: 40 seconds to deliver 10 Joules of energy to a 4cm depth
- 4 Watt Laser: 10seconds to deliver 10 Joules of energy to a 4cm depth
The higher-powered laser will be able to deliver therapeutic doses to deeper targets in a short amount of time
Many doctors like to treat in pulsed or continuous wave modes.
Pulsed laser therapy is often associated with the 980nm wavelength and is used more as an analgesic treatment.
Continuous wavelength has the beam turned on for the duration of the treatment. Continuous wave is most often used for biostimulation, healing and recovery. Continuous wave works well in the 810 and 980nm ranges.
The Smart R310A utilizes the wavelengths that fall into the therapeutic windows of 810 and 980, wavelengths so not only is photobiomodulation achieved and deep healing, but pain control and an analgesic affect with the 980 nm wavelength.

Caution
- The probe cannot be immersed in any conductive liquid, so as not to corrode the probe and sheath.
- The depth of the probe immersed in water shall not exceed the mark of the probe immersion line, and check the probe shell for cracks to avoid damage to internal components by liquid immersion.
- Before cleaning the probe, make sure that the probe is powered off.
Steps
- After each use of the probe, use a soft cloth dampened with Isopropyl alcohol (or an appropriate hospital cleaning agent) to clean the probe.
- Disconnect the probe from the mobile device.
- Wipe the probe for one minute until it is visibly clean.
- Change wipes when necessary and repeat step 3 until the probe is visibly clean.
- Visually inspect the probe in a well-lit area to ensure all surfaces are clean.
- If the probe is not clean, repeat the steps above.
